The stilted houses are deliberately elongated, capturing a feeling and memory of a peaceful time. Nearby, a woman is seen washing laundry, quietly attending to the routines of domestic life. The work is emblematic of his signature style: richly colored, crackled textures formed by layers of wax-resist dyeing, and tender portrayals of Malaysian village life. At the Henry Butcher Art Auction October 2012, Dato’ Chuah Thean Teng's batik painting achieved a realised price of RM 176,000.
