In a surreal state of mind, Ismail Awi imaginatively creates a fantasy landscape inhabited by strange creatures. Confronted with a lucid dream, the viewer is forced to narrate a scene from the grotesque encounter. The Dreamers illustrates a winged-man, slobbering in deep sleep. His face is resting on an ancient tortoise — its expression indicates astonishment. A couple of birds are hovering around them. Miniature stilt houses are positioned on the sleeping man’s palm. He certainly had a good dream, as shown by the smiling faces coming out from the mouth of the tortoise.
