The work draws inspiration from the landscapes of Joshua Tree National Park, with recurring cactus motifs visible in the composition. Within this imagined terrain, spindly, attenuated elephants and a smoking lobster evoke the surrealist vocabulary of Salvador Dalí. These references are interwoven with contemporary visual symbols — social media icons such as the former Twitter logo, emojis, “likes”, and cursors, creating a dialogue between historical surrealism and the digital age. Colbert holds an MA in Philosophy from University of St Andrews and has exhibited widely in museums and galleries worldwide. His first major presentation of large-scale paintings, New Paintings, was held at the Saatchi Gallery in 2017. More recently, his solo exhibition Journey To The Lobster Planet was organised by Whitestone Gallery Singapore. Definitely a rising star poised to streak across the sky towards something bright and marvellous!
