This is a rare little-known facet of Khalil Ibrahim’s painting oeuvre. He actually dabbled in printmaking, specifically etching. While he kept to simple configurations, he incorporated more detailed lines in the intricate weft of the fish wicker baskets. The three women helpers walking towards viewer are fully clothed with U-necked baju melayu while one man visible looks half-naked clad in only knee-high sarung. According to Raja Azhar Idris, all the preparations etching plates were done at his studio at home in Melbourne, and he, too, prepared the limited edition prints. A special exhibition of eight of Khalil’s etchings had been held at Art Case Galleries, then at Great Eastern Mall in Ampang.
