This still life, comprised of a few carefully chosen elements, achieves an elegant simplicity through its restrained monochrome palette. The artist’s signature dragonflies, symbols of good fortune, drift delicately above the antique porcelain. The work serves as a gentle reminder to appreciate the beauty of the objects that inhabit our daily lives, while fostering an appreciation for our local heritage. Yap Chin Hoe demonstrated his talent at an early age — before he graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art in 1991, his work has netted him awards, and was displayed in 1990’s Young Contemporary Artists Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur. In 2022, he had featured his works in Reminiscence: Yap Chin Hoe & Tony Ng Duo Exhibition held at Art WeMe Contemporary Gallery, Kuala Lumpur.
