Description
The surreal and evocative works of Ismail Latiff are imbued with a strong sense of animated movement. Through an intuitive and expressive approach, the artist builds the surface with effortless layers of brushstrokes. These spontaneous marks create dazzling rhythmic patterns that pulse with vitality, drawing the viewer into a dreamlike visual experience. A prominent circular motif is positioned over the composition.
Ismail Latiff graduated with a Diploma in Art and Design from Mara Institute of Technology, Selangor in 1979 and has exhibited internationally since 1977. His accolades include the Frank Sullivan Award, Salon Malaysia, National Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1979), Young Illustrator of Asia, Tokyo, Japan (1981), and First Prize, Biennial of Visual Arts, Carnagie Museum, Victoria, Seychelles (1992). In 1984, he held his first solo art exhibition in Kuala Lumpur followed by 5 others such as Nine Years with Art Salon, Kuala Lumpur (1993), Magic in the Sky, Kuala Lumpur (2005) and Come Fly with Me, Kuala Lumpur (2008). He participated in a group exhibition titled The Prayer organised by NN Gallery in 2012 and his work was featured at the Affordable Art Fair, Singapore in 2014. Ismail’s collectors include individuals, corporations, galleries, national and international museums.
