Painted with impressive energy and confident strokes, the artwork shows Peter Liew‘s impression of an old building inspired during his travels. The combination of gestural strokes with thick impasto applied on canvas is the artist’s forte.
Peter Liew has been called the ‘Poet of the Panorama’ for his large natural landscapes of Asia, Europe, the United States and Oceania although he has moved away from a green palette to urbanscapes, quaysides and more recently, ‘landscape’ portraits. He taught at the Malaysian Institute of Art from 1981-1994, after receiving his Diploma of Fine Art there in 1979 (He was awarded Best Student in 1978). He has several solos since his first at Art House Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, in 1981, including in the Art Expo Malaysia. Most notable is his solo at Galeri Seni Maybank, Kuala Lumpur in 1997. His latest art exhibition titled Peter Liew Retrospective was organised by Soka Gakkai Malaysia in 2018.
