There are all types of politicians, none of them today of any good. Scheming, corrupted, treacherous, vain, insidious, calculative, untrustworthy, abusive, destructive… the list goes on. Thus, Raduan Man depicts his politician as one with a long nose after the Pinocchio allegory, where the nose is elongated in proportion to the lies told. And often, with lackeys as shown by the Rottweiler to carry out the nefarious deeds. Very seldom does one get one politician truly with the people’s interests and well being at heart and with the will to carry out his or her tasks unimpeded. One who doesn’t fit this contemptible persona is perhaps Jose Mujica, Uruguay’s president from 2010-2015. It’s not only in politics that one has to put up with politicians, but also the act of politicking in the work place and social circle, and also in one’s own family. It’s a change to see an artwork by Raduan Man without his fixation with military aircraft and war machines. Raduan Man, a professed animal breeder, graduated with Masters from the University of Wolverhampton (Painting) in 2003 and the Camberwell School of Art (Printmaking) in 2006, after graduating with a BFA from Universiti ITM in 2000. In 2002, he won the Juror’s Award in the Tanjung Heritage competition. He has had several solos since his first at the NN Gallery called Fresh Markings in 2003.
