A massive red machine made from an assemblage of excavators, backhoes, tractors, and cement trucks is depicted ravaging the forest, destroying trees and clearing land for unscrupulous financial gain. The striking contrast between the intense red and muted greys underscores the menacing greed of large corporations operating under the guise of development. The driving motive is purely profit, with little regard for the environment. Such negligent actions result in widespread deforestation and the loss of habitat for animals. Ng Swee Keat graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art, specialising in oil painting and Chinese ink painting. His works are included in the collections of museums and public institutions, including the National Art Gallery Malaysia, Nokia (M) Sdn. Bhd, United Overseas Bank, and Philip Morris, as well as in numerous private collections. Ng’s accomplishments include receiving the Best Student award at his alma mater. In 2011, he won the top prize at the UOB Painting of the Year competition and was also presented with the Malaysian Emerging Artist Award.
