These are one of the very few occasions that Khalil Ibrahim dabbled with gouache, when he was studying at the St Martin’s School of Art, experimenting with a variety of media except acrylic which he took up seriously later on. A simple kitchen area of a pan and a water pitcher, with some vegetables on the table, indicating the frugal existence of a low-budget student from a rural background trying to get by in cosmopolitan London.
