Rudy Mardijanto creates delightful compositions that celebrate the rhythms of rural life, portraying Javanese villagers living in harmony with their surroundings. Set within a local market, the scene unfolds beneath the shade of a large tree, where a group of villagers gather for a casual chat. Through intricate arrangement of scale and distance, Rudy brilliantly captures the animated expressions and gestures of each figure, from the lively storyteller to the attentive listeners, imbuing the work with a sense of warmth. The vibrancy of village life is further accentuated through the colourful patterns and textures of the clothing. The work portrays a celebration of communal relationships, embodied through the collective’s social practices and customs. Rudy Mardijanto was born in Blora, Central Java, and graduated from the Art Academy ISI (Institut Seni Indonesia), Yogyakarta. Since 1986, Rudy has actively participated in various art exhibitions across Indonesia including Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Solo, Malang, Surabaya and Bali. He received an award from ISI Yogyakarta in 1987 and was a finalist in the Philip Morris Indonesian Art Award in 2001. He had solo exhibitions in Singapore since 2007. H Gallery from Jakarta has represented Rudy at Art Expo Malaysia from 2008 to 2013. He held his first solo exhibition in Malaysia titled Indonesian Rural Society In Transition at Interpr8 Art Space, Kuala Lumpur in 2014. He has participated in group exhibitions such as Spirit of Java Ponco Warno at G Print Making Art Studio Ngampilan, Yogyakarta, in 2022.
