Nguyen Lam is revered as one of Vietnam’s most significant modern painters, a master in both oil and lacquer who helped shape modern Vietnamese art. Deeply rooted in tradition, his works bridge Eastern aesthetics with modernist sensibilities. His poetic abstractions, composed of expressive and gestural brushwork, embody the fluidity and rhythm of calligraphy. His palette consists of striking contrasts of red, black, and white to the gentle harmonies of blue and ochre. Nguyen Lam graduated from the National School of Fine Arts Saigon in 1965. He was also a professor at the Nation School of Decoration and Fine Arts, Gia Dinh. Known for his abstract artworks Nguyen Lam has exhibited around the world from Vietnam to the United States, Japan, France, Belgium, India, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. He also received numerous prizes and awards for his works spanning from 1962 onwards. Specialising in lacquer painting he was chosen by the French consulate to restore a rare painting by Nguyen Gia Tri a Vietnam's legendary lacquer painter in 2013. Nguyen Lam's paintings appear in permanent collections of the Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts, Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts and several private collections in Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and United States of America.
