Known for working en plein-air, Peter Liew paints in gestural strokes with thick impasto layers applied by palette knife and brush which creates dynamic movement. The painting illustrates a lush jungle paradise rendered in exotic shades of green and red, imbued with a sense of mystery. The artist has travelled extensively around the world to capture breathtaking landscapes in countries such as England, Italy, China, Indonesia, Mauritius and the United States of America.
Peter Liew received his Diploma in Fine Art from Malaysia Institute of Art (MIA) in 1979. He served as a lecturer at MIA from 1981 to 1994, and has over 40 years of experience in painting. His solo exhibitions were exhibited at Artist House Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1981), Balai Seni Maybank (1997), Museum of the City of Skopje, Skopje (Republic of Macedonia) (2002) and Penang State Art Gallery (2009). He was awarded the Best Award in Fine Art, Malaysian Institute of Art, Kuala Lumpur in 1978.
