This work, Merapi, is part of Danni’s series of contemplative monochrome paintings that draw from his research and personal reflections on the renowned Mount Merapi. The series examines not only the narratives of the volcano but also the profound emotional and social impact of its 2010 eruption on surrounding communities. The artist skilfully combines elements reminiscent of Old Master paintings such as intricately rendered flowers, graceful birds, butterflies, and various animals, which are embedded into the composition to adorn the figure’s face and body. A graduate of Universitas Negeri Semarang, his practice explores themes of memory, resilience, and the dialogue between old masters and modern culture. His recent solo exhibition The Unblink Icons (2025) was held at Jakarta Art Hub Ranuza. He has participated in Art Fair Philippines 2025 with Artemis Art.  Danni has twice received the Gold Award at the UOB Indonesia Painting of the Year — first in 2018 in the Emerging Artist category, and again in 2020 in the Established Artist category.
