Peter Liew’s practice is distinguished by expressive oil paintings, defined by thick impasto textures executed with the palette knife. The peaceful natural scene is meticulously constructed through deft layers of oil paint on canvas. The canvas is imbued with a sense of movement, as the artist swiftly captures the transient and shifting qualities of weather.  Peter Liew studied at the Malaysian Institute of Art from 1976 to 1979, where he was awarded Best Student in 1978, and later served as a lecturer from 1981 to 1994. His artistic themes extend across architecture, quaysides, and more recently, landscape portraits. Since his debut solo at Art House Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, in 1981, he has held numerous exhibitions, including at Art Expo Malaysia and a solo presentation in Skopje, Macedonia, in 2002, following his invitation to the Debrca art colony in 2000. His solo exhibitions have been held at the National Art Gallery Malaysia and Wisma Kebudayaan Soka Gakkai Malaysia in recent years. His works have been exhibited in China, Singapore, Thailand, Macedonia, and Japan.
