This refined painting depicts an elegant nyonya lady gazing out the window in quiet contemplation. With minimal elements such as an antique vase, a tray of sweets, and soft light, the artist achieves a delightful composition that exudes grace and timeless elegance. Tan Gaik Hoon graduated from the Kuala Lumpur College of Art with a Diploma in Fine Art in 1994. She is a member of the Malaysian Watercolour Society. Gaik Hoon’s works can be found in collections in many countries such as Australia, France, Holland, United States, Singapore, Sweden, and Malaysia. Her work had also travelled to Seoul in South Korea where it was exhibited at the 22nd Korea New Art Festival. Apart from that, she was the Consolation Prize winner of the 1993 Competition organised by Kontena Nasional and the Shah Alam Gallery.
