This painting depicts with expressionistic brushwork the celebration of Thaipusam, an important Hindu festival. The solid composition of broad sweeps and rich colours create vibrancy, complemented with the placement of kavadi bearing figures forming diagonal lines that enhances the rhythm of movement. Ho Khay Beng received his education at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore (1958), and furthered his studies at Rome Academy of Fine Arts, Italy. His solo exhibitions were exhibited locally and abroad, which include Chin Kang Association, Penang (1965), Galleria Guilla Flavia, Rome, Italy (1966), Galleria Michaelangelo, Rome, Italy (1967), Galleria D’arte Volschi, Rome, Italy (1968) and Memorial Exhibition, The Art Gallery, Penang (1996). Between the years 1965 to 1968, the artist was awarded six gold and silver medals at national and international art competitions in Italy.
