Daik is a mountain located in a small village of Pulau Lingga. The mountain is famously known for its three peaks. There is in fact a pantun made out from this mountain sounded like. Pulau Pandan jauh ke tengah, Gunung Daik bercabang tiga; Hancur badan dikandung tanah, Budi yang baik dikenang juga. Basically, it describes a situation whereby a person does good helping others, it will be remembered forever. The artist uses vibrant combination of colours to represents the beautiful mountain that has brought many meanings in Malay culture. It is hallmark of the veteran artist painting for 60 years that at age 84, he is still working on his canvas. Sanip was one of the early Malays who graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore, in 1961. His is a lifelong devotion to landscapes with series such as Sri Mersing, Endau-Rompin, Gunung Ledang and more recently, Gelorasa. He was also a past president of the Johor Artists Society and the Johor Historical Society.
