Wong Nai Chin forged his distinct identity in Chinese ink painting through experimentations in lines and colours. His poetic vision is expressed through swift folds on the mountain range, using heavy ink to build up the mountains in the background. He enjoyed sketching and travelled to many countries such as Europe, China and Southeast Asia to experience and observe nature. This work is his depiction of tin mining landscape infused with a romantic and elegant spirit. It was a gift presented to Dr. Usman Awang at an event in Johor on 30th November, 1985 (inscription, top left). Wong Nai Chin graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1965. He was involved in arts education for more than three decades and had lecturing stints at several art institutions.
