Rows of buildings are highlighted through buttery yellow hues, juxtaposed with the construction vehicles in the foreground. Distilled into blocks of geometric forms, a row of colonial heritage houses was depicted on the left, in contrast with modern commercial buildings on the right. These excavation vehicles imply the destruction and lack of interest in the preservation of local heritage buildings. The demolition of these traditional architectural buildings will result in a loss of sense of place and memories. Gan Sze Hooi was a finalist of the Asia-Pacific Nokia Art Awards in 1999 and 2000. He took part in international art camps in Aiud, Romania, in 2015 and Athwajan, India, in 2016. He was also featured in the Fusion exhibition involving artists from Malaysia, Bangladesh, India and Nepal at Galeri Seni Mutiara, Penang, in 2015, and the M50: Selamat Hari Malaysia showcase at White Box, MAP Publika, KL. He also took part in the 2018 Art Stage Singapore. In 2014, he held a solo, Revelation Of Jalan Sultan, at Lost Gens space, KL. Gan graduated from the Central Academy of Art, KL, in 2001.
