Zulkifli Yusoff is one of Malaysia’s most established contemporary artists. An accomplished artist, he developed a versatile practice that encompasses painting, sculptures, and installation. Zulkifli is also known for his evocative pieces influenced by historical events. These bold and colourful compositions refer to an important time frame — the nation’s period of independence. Studies (Merdeka 57 II), illustrates the 20 cents coin issued by the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Malaya. Studies (Itik Pulang Petang II) integrates images of ducks, combined with swirling forms, love symbols and rattan patterned background – elements associated with the atmosphere of kampung.
