Through a fluid abstraction of lines, the composition evokes a bed of seagrass within the ocean, with seahorses delicately nestled above. In Tay Poi San’s practice, ink serves as a fluid medium through which he unites traditional Eastern techniques with modern modes of expression. His works draw upon the refined sensibilities of classical Chinese landscape painting while simultaneously infusing a vibrant contemporary aesthetic, resulting in poetic compositions that explore the boundaries between reality and abstraction. His solo exhibition in Paris entitled Rivers of Ink: The Flowing Legacy of Tay Poi San was held at the Vanities Gallery in 2025. His artistic career extends over several decades, beginning with his first major solo exhibition in 1995 at Newhill Art Gallery in Malaysia. He has participated in international shows that include the Hong Kong Ink Global Art Festival in 2021, exhibitions in Shenzhen in 2022, and the London Art Biennale in 2023.
