Do you believe in safety in numbers? Not with the law of the jungle where might is right, and the most ferocious of predators get to survey its victims for weaknesses for a little tremor of fear. With a dazzle of zebras all huddled together at a water spot, thinking that their stripes could act as a camouflage, a cheetah is in no hurry to pounce on its prey. Surely with so many, in the consternation in the ensuing stampede it could well have a feast, with those injured kept for last. Known for its sprinting speed at more than 110-115km/h, the Carl Lewis of the animal kingdom has few equals. If nothing else, the overall geometry of stripes makes an eye-pleasing fashion statement. Apart from the rule of the survival of the fittest, Najib Ahmad Bamadhaj’s menagerie of the animal world also touches on rarity of breed and species extinction. After a series of 2nd Prizes (Johor Open, Malacca TYT Portrait), Najib Ahmad Bamadhaj clinched 1st Prize in the Nandos competition and the Tanjung Heritage mixed media category, both in 2010, the year he graduated with a BFA from Universiti ITM, Majoring in Painting. He also won the National Art Gallery’s Visual Arts Award in 2011. He is represented by Taksu galleries in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore with solos Great Migration (2012), Survival (Singapore, 2015), Pride and Prejudice (2020). His international fairs include Art Stage Singapore, Singapore Contemporary, Art Kaohsiung, Gwangju Biennale, Art Expo Malaysia, Art Moments Jakarta and ArtJog Yogyakarta.
