Lim Mu Hue is best known for his intricate woodblock prints. A versatile artist, he had also produced works in ink, oil, pastel paintings and woodblock prints. He was known for portraying the social realities and local culture through the medium of woodblock. His distinctive prints are visually appealing as they reflect his sensitivity to the creation of lines. Featuring the early rustic landscapes from the eastern, central and western region of Singapore, these prints exemplify the artist's skill in printmaking, showcasing his exceptional talent for portraying dimensional space and distance, made with precise and sharp lines. Lim Mu Hue graduated in western painting in 1955 at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. In 1959, his painting won the first prize at the "Malayan Way of Life" competition sponsored by Lever Brothers Malaya. He was an art editor for the Nanyang Siang Pau and was a consultant for the Lee Kong Chian Art Gallery at Nanyang University. In 1966, he had participated in Woodcuts: Six-men Show. In 2006, he was commissioned to produce a mural installation at the Esplanade MRT station titled Let The Show Begin. In 2016, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts held a retrospective of his works.
