Yap Chin Hoe's meticulously composed arrangements of still life are testament of his skill in observing different textures. His paintings merge different elements such as a handmade vessel and antique bowl with plants, like the orchid. Dragonflies generally symbolize change, transformation, adaptability, and new beginnings. They are often associated with the ability to navigate life's challenges with grace and to see the deeper truths in situations. Different cultures and belief systems also ascribe specific meanings, such as good luck, and prosperity. Yap Chin Hoe demonstrated his talent at an early age - before he graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art in 1991, his work has netted him awards, and was displayed in 1990's Young Contemporary Artists Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur.
