The dense and elaborate oil paintings of Boonhlue Yangsouy often revolve around alluring female figures illuminated by incandescent light and accompanied by a menagerie of fantastical creatures. Beneath the evocation of glamour and wealth, his compositions weave together themes of urbanization, inequality, and fantasy, reflecting both the complexities and desires of contemporary society. Within these perpetually transforming worlds, animals such as sphinx cats, dogs, and alligators appear as symbolic characters, each representing different facets of human behaviour. The women in Yangsouy’s paintings are imbued with a profound sense of inner fortitude and resilience as they confront the challenges and forms of oppression that surround them. Boonhlue Yangsouy received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Rajamangala University of Technology Pohchang and a Master of Arts degree from Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. His artistic focus stems from a deep observation of human appearances and behaviours. His solo exhibition The Art of F* it and Letting Go (2025), and Once Upon A Time (2021) was presented by Number 1 Gallery.
