Ong Soo Keat was born in Penang. As an avid nature lover, the artists’ works revolve mostly around birds and its natural habitat as well as other animals. He held solo exhibitions in 1977, 1982 and 1991. In 1975, Ong Soo Keat was invited to participate in the London Group Exhibition of Endangered Species. Some of his paintings were used for Malaysian Postal Stamps design.
