Zaim Durulaman is known for his recurring boat motif, which serves as a metaphor for human life – a journey to self-discovery and resilience. His works combine elements of realism and abstraction, often drawing from Malay literature and poetry. Scenes of fishing boats lining the shoreline and the everyday accessories used are recurring themes that continue to captivate the artist. Zaim Durulaman has been a full-time artist since 1990. He obtained a Master’s degree in Fine Art and Technology from Universiti Teknologi Mara, Shah Alam (2013–2014), and a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Design (Graphic Design) from the same institution in Shah Alam, Selangor (1984–1988). His solo exhibitions include Beyond Iconography, Galeri Tapak (2004). A talented artist in using various media, he has participated in local and international exhibitions in countries such as Brunei, Vietnam, China, Japan, Korea, Macedonia, Tunisia and Dubai. His works are collected by museums, corporations, banks, and private collectors around the world. He is a lecturer at Unisel.
