On offer is a set of two works by Yap Chin Hoe featuring blue and white porcelain and the other featuring a coral red porcelain set against an abstract background. Both of the pieces are painted with great details of the peranakan motives. Yap Chin Hoe demonstrated his talent at an early age — before he graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art in 1991. His work has netted him awards, and was displayed in 1990’s Young Contemporary Artists Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur. With a double major in oil painting and printmaking, Yap puts a spin on the Western still life, employing Oriental porcelain and creatures as his theme.
