One of the main attractions in northern Perak is the Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary – a bird watching paradise. The sanctuary was established by the Wildlife and National Parks to protect migratory and resident species of birds. The mangrove and mudflat areas are a stopover for various species of migratory and resident birds including endangered species such as the Lesser Adjutant and Milky stork. Bathed in magnificent light, the foliage of the mangrove forest is reflected on the lake. Abdul Rasid Yusof focuses on the depiction of nature and wildlife in his paintings to create awareness about the importance of biodiversity conservation. An avid nature lover Abdul Rasid Yusof was born in Johor but resides in Ampang where he set up his studio. It was in 1977 that he became an illustrator and cartoonist and began illustrating for comics and schoolbook publications. He participated in many art exhibitions as far as Taiwan, China and Philippines. His recent art exhibition was a group show in 2019 at the City Art Gallery together with fellow artist friends Ahmad Fauzi Arshad, Tan Sik Yaw, Tang Hong Lee, Lam Le Siang and Yeo Eng Peng.
