On offer here, the artist paints a very famous chicken rice shop located in Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur. Lui Cheng Thak’s fondness for traditional architecture in urban areas is executed in his distinctive palette containing earthy tones that exudes a soothing and uplifting atmosphere of the scene. Lui studied at the Kuala Lumpur College of Art from 1987 to 1989. His early solos were As I Was Passing (Hotel Istana, organised by Pelita Hati), Our Heritage (Rusli Hashim Fine Art, 2001), As I Was Passing II (Galeri Citra, 2006), Circles: Nostalgia and Collective Memory (White Box Publika, 2014). This was followed by twelve consecutive solos with Pinkguy Gallery, the latest being Jalan-Jalan 2 in February 2022.
