Fishes, butterflies, lotus and water lilies are metaphors of relationships between different life-forms, primarily with Man. Here different species of fishes are set against a screen-printed jumble of words denoting months in haphazard array. What this portends is open to interpretations. Wan Jamarul Imran Wan Abdullah Thani professes to being inspired by artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, David Salle, Ismail Zain and Jalaini Abu Hassan. He completed his PhD in Universiti ITM, where he did his BFA. He studied for his MFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art in the United States. He was one of the 11 Minor Award winners in the Young Contemporary Artists competition in 1994. He had his first solo, Metaphors, at the Townhouse Gallery (since moved to bigger premises at two venues and now called Wei-Ling Gallery) in February-March 2005.
