Yusof Majid’s artworks are distinguished by a carefree, dreamlike quality, where imaginative possibilities take shape. Within these spaces, he conveys multiple characters that exude a sense of joy and wonder. By navigating a delicate balance between surrealism and natural forms, the artist constructs scenes that reveal the elusive terrain of the inner subconscious, dreams and memories. In this composition, a giraffe traverses across open grasslands beneath an ethereal cloud filled sky.
Yusof Majid spent the first 27 years of his life in Britain, where he obtained a BA in Art in 1991 followed by a Master’s degree from the Chelsea School of Art London. He returned to Malaysia permanently in 1995 and established his gallery, initially named Darling Muse. His debut solo exhibition was held in France at the Municipal Hall in Bergerac. His other solo exhibitions include Quiet Concerns: Yusof Majid, held at the Valentine Willie Fine Art, Kuala Lumpur in 1997.
