Observing the natural world around him, Dato' Tajuddin Ismail creates compositions that translate perception and memory. The artist explores harmony within the pictorial space through the language of mark making, light effects, and colour relations. In this abstract work, he found inspiration through the landscapes of Pangkor, focusing on the interplay of shapes, rich colours and lyrical gestures. Dato' Tajuddin graduated in Graphic Design at the Art Centre College of Design in Los Angeles, the United States, in 1974. He did his Post-graduate Interior Architecture at the Pratt Institute in New York in 1979-1981. His accolades include the Major Award, National Drawing Competition in 1977; Minor Award, National Graphic Art, National Art Gallery, 1978; Minor Award, Salon Malaysia, 1979; and Minor Award, National Design Council, 1994. He set up TJ Fine Art in 2004. After teaching at the University Mara Institute of Technology for several years, he joined Sunway University as Fine Arts Department Associate Professor and Academic Adviser.
