Known for working en plein-air, this work contains Peter Liew's signature style marked by thick impasto layers applied by palette knife and energetic brush strokes. The scene portrays the landscape of a mountainous region enveloped by dense vegetation and blue skies. Peter Liew is celebrated for his confident use of the palette knife bringing his landscapes to life with vibrant hues and textural paint surface. Peter Liew has been called the 'Poet of the Panorama' for his large natural landscapes of Asia, Europe, the United States and Oceania although he has moved away from a green palette to urbanscapes, quaysides and more recently, 'landscape' portraits. He taught at the Malaysian Institute of Art from 1981 to 1994, after receiving his Diploma of Fine Art there in 1979 (He was awarded Best Student in 1978). He had several solos since his first at Art House Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, in 1981, including in the International Art Expo Malaysia. Most notable is his solo at Galeri Seni Maybank, Kuala Lumpur in 1997. His recent solos were held at National Art Gallery Malaysia and Wisma Kebudayaan Soka Gakkai Malaysia.
