Armed with a palette knife, Loo Hooi Nam illustrates a scenic view of Batu Ferringhi Beach, Penang. His impressionist rendition is created with thick impasto technique that brings out the character of the place. The rocky terrain on the coastline was skilfully depicted using various strokes of earthy brown tones, merging with the tranquil blue colours of the sea and sky. Self-trained painter Loo Hooi Nam has held several solo exhibitions such as at Galeri Seni Mutiara, Penang; City Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur and Li Chi Mao Art House, Malacca in 2012. He won a gold award for the SP Setia Art Fair Penang in 2001. He is also the recipient of Pesta Pulau Pinang prizes in 1993, 1994 and 1997. Loo is a member of the Penang Art Society, Penang Watercolour Society, Angkatan Pelukis Kedah and Central Kedah Art Society. His solo titled Rhythms & Resonances was held at the Penang State Art Gallery in 2011.
