Drawing from the historical references of Southeast Asia, Yee I-Lann is known for her diverse artistic practice encompassing photo media, collaborative weaving, and film to explore issues of colonialism, neo-colonialism, and power. Produced in a carefully assembled vertical format, this work reflects on past histories with a combination of drawing and poem, accompanied by an image of a forceful figure. Yee I-Lann received her BA in Visual Arts from the University of South Australia in 1993. Her solo exhibition Borneo Heart was held at Sabah International Convention Centre and was also showcased at Art Basel’s ‘OVR: Portals (2021).
