The local fruit mangosteen is transformed into an iconic symbol through the artist's playful experimentation of light and colour. A set of three pieces, each containing its own study of colour and patterns is on offer. The interplay of shadow and patterns adds rich detail alongside the fruit, as this seemingly daily subject evokes recollections of past experiences and a once familiar space. Dr Jamil Mat Isa studied printmaking at the Mara Institute of Technology (ITM) and Birmingham Institute of Art before pursuing his PhD in Art and Design at Universiti Teknologi Mara Shah Alam. His works have been widely exhibited locally, including two solo exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur and Penang and internationally. He publishes articles in numerous art exhibitions and specialises in serigraphy techniques.
