This miniature and mighty abstract work by Datuk Ibrahim Hussein, created in 1980, features an explosion of confetti colours like blue, red, yellow, and white against a lilac background - the burst of colours contained within a darker purple shade framed by an orange outline. During his illustrious lifetime, Datuk Ibrahim Hussein exhibited his artworks globally, namely his first solo exhibition at John Whibley Gallery, London (1963), the second exhibition at Gallerie Internationale, New York (1965), an exhibition at Takashima Art Gallery, Tokyo (1989), an exhibition at Takashima Art Gallery, Osaka (1989), an exhibition at Museo National de Bellas Artes, Santiago, Chile (1991) and an exhibition at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland (1994). He was a resident artist at the University of Malaya between 1971 and 1978, when the late Royal Prof Ungku Abdul Aziz was the vice-chancellor. He was also the recipient of many high-profile international awards, namely The Japan Foundation Cultural Award (1981), Venezuela's Order of Andres Bello (1993), Chile's Order of Bernardo O. Higgins (1996) and the highly prestigious World Economic Forum's Crystal Award (1997).
