Towards the end of the 1960s, Laitong ventured into a new type of composition, embarking on a sophisticated experimentation of forms and colours. The captivating piece dated 1968 conveys an array of pulsating forms arranged deftly in a bold and engaging colour palette of green and yellow hues. In 1967, Cheong Laitong participated in the GRUP show, exhibiting along Syed Ahmad Jamal, Latiff Mohidin, Ibrahim Hussein, Yeoh Jin Leng, Jolly Koh and Anthony Lau. During this period, Cheong Laitong held his second solo show at the Samat Art Gallery in 1968. He also received recognition for his talent, as he won the 1st prize at the Salon Malaysia in the oil and acrylic section in 1969.
