Yeong Seak Ling, nee Yong Chee Chong, relishes in textural nuances in his watercolours of rocks, beach, plantations, street scenes and in this case, trees. The decaying tree is bereft of leaves and its bark is diseased, but still, it strikes a pretty picture in the night light, where even pigeons take to it as a resting place. Self-taught Yeong was a member of the Utara Group (1977) and the Art Group Penang (2003), and a founding member of the Penang Watercolour Society in 1978. He won 3rd Prize (Watercolour) in the Salon Malaysia in 1969. He turned fulltime in art in 1991, but helped set up Art Point Gallery in Penang together with his artist wife, Yuen Chee Ling.
