Born in Hanoi, Nguyen Duc Toan, a Vietnamese musician and painter, studied at the Indochina Higher School of Fine Arts in 1944, where he received his early artistic training before embarking on a distinguished career as a painter and composer. Although widely celebrated for his contributions to Vietnamese music, he devoted himself increasingly to painting from the 1980s onwards, working across a wide range of media including oil, lacquer, silk, ink, and pigments. A commemorative exhibition was organised by the Vietnam Fine Arts Association to commemorate the 90th anniversary of his birth, honouring his outstanding contribution to Vietnamese art.
