This set of 2 paintings by A.J. Rahman contains a scene derived from village life and the other, a still life composition. The artist paints the rich and luxuriant forest interior with towering palms surrounding a wooden house. Depicted with sensitive brushwork, the other painting consists of a brilliant still life in rich colours showing a display of watermelon, pear, apples and grapes. A.J. Rahman, together with A.B. Ibrahim and Saidin Yahaya, form a group named Tiga Serangkai which was a start of the art history in Kedah. In 1946, the trio opened up their art studio called Warna Art Studio located in Pekan Rabu, Alor Setar. Besides being an artist, A.J. Rahman was also a school teacher.
