Suryadi Suyamtina is an Indonesian artist who has showcased his work both across the country and internationally, including South Korea and Malaysia. His surreal and imaginative compositions reflect his growing concerns with humanity's relationship to the environment, the impact of technological advancement, and the impact of rapid urbanisation. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas in surrealism, he places strong emphasis on texture in his compositions. In this work, water buffaloes with tall, spindly legs, traverse a barren landscape, carrying what appear to be the remnants of humanity. The cow could be read as a symbol of earlier times, when the earth was greener and environmental degradation had yet to reach its present scale. One of the water buffaloes turns back to meet the viewer's gaze, introducing a glimmer of home amid the desolate landscape.
