A multidisciplinary artist, Chuah Seow Keng is celebrated for his mastery of diverse media, including batik, watercolour, and fibreglass. Executed in soothing lavender and green hues, this batik work presents a personal interpretation of a village landscape, as though offering a glimpse into the artist's cherished memories. The house is constructed from a dynamic interplay of geometric forms, intersecting planes, and rhythmic lines, while shafts of light brightens the scene. On the left, a woman dressed in traditional attire carrying her earthen urns, makes her way towards her beloved home where her belongings and memories reside. Moreover, the lady and her urns are the only elements rendered in orange colour, marking their significance. The stillness of the scene evokes memories of life in the village, imbued with longing and serenity. Penang-based Chuah Seow Keng follows in the footsteps of his father, Dato' Chuah Thean Teng to pursue his career as an artist. Seow Keng was awarded a scholarship to study at the Suddeutsche Kunststoff Zentrum in Wurzburg, Germany in 1968, specialising in fiberglass sculpture. Between 1970 and 1972, he presented three fiberglass sculptures commissioned by Malaysia Singapore Airlines and Bank Negara Malaysia. His other accomplishments included the selection of two of his paintings entitled Fish and Rural Life for Unicef's greeting cards in 1988 and again in 1992 for his paintings Fish (watercolour) and Sunrise. In 1989, he was awarded with a Certificate of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement at the Artitudes 7th International Art Competition, New York, USA.
