As for an everyday use, the calendar is considered as an important medium that we use to remember important dates, example, special dates, upcoming events, memories and also sad dates. Some people will jot down or scribble some notes onto the calendar as a reminder to a certain dates so they won’t forget.
These sets of mixed media pieces are about remembering and honouring the important and meaningful dates that occur throughout the whole year. Some dates are personal, some are griefs and also historical moments to us. Instead of using canvas or paper, I used the Horse Calendar as the base of these artworks. The idea is to bring out memories and retrieve flashbacks to the audience about the common thing, which is the Horse Calendar that they see and use everyday.
Regarding this idea, as an artist, I changed the technique (instead of just jotting down with a pencil or a pen), I exaggerated the scenarios or events on the calendar by adding up assemblage and collage technique onto it. I constructed paper cut outs, clay works and some ready made objects to make it more lively. The usage of vivid colours to the artworks made the pieces popped out and vibrant. Every month represents a meaningful term. I dedicated each month regarding the occasions or memorable scenarios of the month. The honour of remembering each month of the year.
