Sofia Haron (b. 1991, Penang) is a Malaysian artist whose work is shaped by emotion, memory and the people she encounters. Growing up among different cultures and traditions gave her an early awareness of how identity can hold many stories at once.
Her paintings centre on the human figure, particularly the feelings carried through a face, a gesture or a moment of stillness. She works with colour instinctively, allowing each painting to develop its own mood and rhythm. Natural light is also important to her process, and she often paints during the day as changing light shifts the tones of the work. Painting gives Sofia a way to understand feelings that are difficult to express in words. Her work draws from her cultural roots, imagination and lived experience, bringing the inner life of her subjects into view.
Some feelings do not leave quietly. They rise from the places where they have been hidden, breaking through breath, voice and tears. In this moment, nothing is restrained. She is not falling apart. She is finally allowing herself to be heard.
